Elizabeth has lived in New Mills for the last twelve years and is inspired by her passion for wildlife and the natural world. She describes her work as ‘painting with fibres’.
Wool fleece, silk and other materials are layered over a bamboo mat and then compressed with a wooden felting roller and hot soapy water until the fibres knit together to form one piece of felt. Once dry, detail is added using a barbed felting needle.
Elizabeth particularly enjoys being immersed in the initial process of laying out colour and texture, the freedom to allow each piece to develop during this stage and the excitement when the piece dries and comes to life.
Commissions are welcome and workshops are available for small groups of people.
