Derek Harley
calligrapher
Calligraphy has been described as “making marks on paper which you do not rub out”. This wide definition covers work which has been developed by many calligraphers in recent years.
Derek enjoys exploring ways in which to present his work both conventionally and creatively. He uses paper, wood, slate, cloth, and tiles, with colour and texture, and a variety of pens and other writing tools, to explore both the meaning and the presentation of work for exhibition and demonstrations.
Based in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Derek is the co-editor of Pen People a subscription magazine for enthusiastic calligraphers. www.penpeople.org.uk
